Project:

The restoration of the Notre-Dame cemetery mortuary is part of a vast program by the City of Luxembourg to enhance this historic site.

Although certain demolitions were essential to the project’s success, they were designed with the utmost care to fit harmoniously into the historic structure.

The creation of openings for new doors and technical interventions (electricity, ventilation) were carried out with strict respect for the original architecture.

The redevelopment project for the Cemetery Department illustrates the importance attached to heritage preservation. All original doors have been preserved, restored and even relocated for new uses. Decorative elements such as picture rails have been carefully renovated, while walls and ceilings have been carefully treated. Floors were preserved as far as possible, contributing to the authentic atmosphere of the premises.

The building has been fully brought up to technical standards, with the creation of a new electrical network, the installation of modern radiators, and the installation of mechanical ventilation for the sanitary facilities. It is, of course, accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Switches and light fittings have been selected in keeping with the building’s period of construction, reinforcing the overall aesthetic coherence.
